ARPA - BroadbandiNEI

The original BROADBANDiNEI effort, which focused on developing broadband capacity in the Territory facing the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic and creating capacity for future potential pandemics, was funded by ARPA in 2022 and was administered by the BCORD office. The $10 million in financing was divided into smaller grants to qualified organizations for the upkeep of domestic undersea fiber-optic cable repairs and 5G cellular networks, among other improvements to broadband infrastructure.

Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD)

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce established a $42.45 billion fund to increase high-speed internet access under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), often known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). With the announcement of a $37.56 million allocation, American Samoa has already received $1.2 million in planning funding. The BroadbandiNEI - BEAD 5 Year Action Plan has also been made available by the BCORD office and its collaborators.

Digital Equity

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce established a $2.75 billion fund to create three grant programs to encourage digital fairness under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), often known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). $150k in planning funding have already been awarded to American Samoa; the formula grant and competitive grants are still to be decided.

A multipurpose community center worth $14.3 million will enhance community resources by facilitating employment, education, and health monitoring. Capital Funds, a division of the U.S. Department of Treasury endeavor.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) oversees the USAC's administration of the FCC Program, which offers qualified participants a monthly internet service rate reduction.
